Information Literacy

We encourage providers to direct parents to resources that help parents evaluate the reliability of vaccine-related information, particularly information found online.  Below are some examples of tools that can be used to assess the validity of immunization-related claims:

  • The Immunization Action Coalition has a 'Reliable Sources of Immunization Information' document that provides links to reputable websites and books.  This one-page document is an excellent resource to print and distribute in clinics.
  • The Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia offers a video series called 'Separating Fact From Fear', which answers parent questions about vaccine safety.
  • Trust it or Trash it? is an online information literacy tool that provides a specific framework for assessing the quality of information found online.
